Carolyn McCall, governor of Tyler Colony of Mayflower Descendants and Betty Corcoran, deputy governor and education chairman, presented a living history program to the second, third and fourth grade children of Bullard Elementary School on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The women came dressed in attire worn by the Pilgrims who landed at Plymouth, Mass. in the winter of 1620 on the ship “Mayflower.” McCall and Corcoran were born in Bullard to some of the oldest families to settle in the Bullard area.
Two DVD’s were shown to the students. The DVD entitled “Colonial Life for Children, Plymouth Plantation,” was shown to the third and fourth graders. The DVD entitled “The Mayflower’s Story” was shown to the second graders. After each presentation the children were allowed to ask questions and to view a display table of items that represented life in the New World. A book entitled “Giving Thanks, 1621 Harvest Feast” by Kate Waters was presented to Principal Lisa Williams for the school’s library.
