BISD Board adopts transfer policy
John Alexander, president of the board, said the “board originally considered the policy because a citizen who owns property asked” about the policy.
A sub-committee was formed to not only consider the district’s policy, but also to present recommended changes, if any.
The five-step, transfer tier includes requests for students of employees, requests from parents who own property or businesses in Bullard, requests from board members of the Bullard Education Foundation and requests from parents who live outside the district.
Trustee Sam Smith said he opposed a policy that would allow requests by board members of the Bullard Education Foundation because of how it might be perceived in the community, that someone could be able to buy their way onto the board just so their student could attend school in the district.
The board voted 5-2 for the newly formed transfer policy.
In other action, trustees also approved the purchase of additional security cameras for $21,977, and the purchase of new softball and baseball scoreboards for the cost of about $43,000. The board discussed but took no action regarding a Demand Response Agreement regarding electric power for the district; regarding a future laptop initiative to provide laptops for education for BISD students; and regarding a transfer or tax swap concerning the bond or I and S tax and the taxes collected for maintenance and operation.
Because of early deadlines due to the holiday, more information about the BISD meeting will be published online and in next week’s edition of the Bullard Banner News.
