Panther freshmen team end 2009 season on sour note
BULLARD – The Bullard freshmen team ended the season on the short-end of a 28-25 loss to the Panthers of Spring Hill last Thursday at Panther Stadium.
Turnovers by the Panthers, and a strong stand by the Spring Hill defensive front were the difference makers in the game.T
he running game of Houston Alexander, J.P. Hendrix, Corbin Howard and Haden Bryant were held at bay throughout the first half. The second half would be different but too late.
Bullard put Spring Hill on the board first with a 64- yard pass interception return for a score by Spencer Hunter.
The PAT kick was good and Spring Hill held only a brief lead.
Fleet-footed wide receiver and linebacker, Sal Guiliano got behind the Spring Hill defense to haul in a Clint Taylor throw at the 20, and juked one defender, and jived another to polish off a 62-yard pass play for the possible evenup.
Weston Gray’s PAT conversion kick was blocked however, and almost returned for a twopoint addition for Spring Hill before Guiliano ran the play down.
Spring Hill took a 14-6 lead when Hunter intercepted the same Bullard pass play in the flat, and ran untouched 36-yards for a TD, and add the kick for Spring Hill.
The same Bullard Panther team returned from the halftime break and continued to shoot themselves in the foot with turnovers.
Spring Hill scored two more touchdowns in the second half.
Bullard’s answered with scores in the closing half on another long scoring strike from Taylor to Guiliano.
The Panthers also got second half points from Houston Alexander and J.P Hendrix to wind up th scoring for the season finale.
The Bullard freshmen finish out the season with a 7-2 record overall and 3-2 in district play, losing to Gilmer and Spring Hill.
“We’d really like to thank the parents and fans for their support this season,” said freshmen head coach, Heath Fults. “They got the kid’s up here for 6 in the morning practices, and the parents and kid’s both were really committed to our efforts as coaches, we really appreciate it.
“This is a great group of kid’s to work with and I can’t wait until next year.”
