Soccer is not one of the main sports at Bullard High School.
I have been playing the goalkeeper position since I was 5 and I am planning to keep my career going through college. If soccer was played at BHS, it would be easier to get a scholarship to play in. If you don’t get a scholarship, there’s usually not a guaranteed spot on the field.
When I found out that Bullard did not have a soccer team I was in total shock. I could not tell you how upset I was. There are about five different schools in our area that have soccer.
If we had a team, we could use our football field for the games and practices just like everybody else does. The only thing that would have to change is the paint because a soccer field is wider. I can tell you this much, a soccer team would spend less money than the football team has with the new field house and other stuff they buy. All the school needs to pay in order to play would be for the goals and uniforms. If they needed a coach I could coach; but that’s never going to happen.
If we ever do get a soccer team we could probably win district, and there are several kids who would play. We do not even have to compete for a title; we can play for fun. Isn’t that what games are about? We could play other schools for scrimmages or for non-district district.
There may be a few problems for the athletics department because it wouldn’t be in athletics, it would be outside sport like golf. It could also become a class since we have eight periods now.
Soccer is the main sport I play. I love the feeling I get when I’m out there and knowing I’m a hero after every tournament. It’s fun jumping in the air and getting muddy. Soccer is my number one responsibility.
It would be great if Bullard High School considers soccer in the future if it fits the need of our growing school. I’ll likely graduate by then but, hopefully, I can still try to get a scholarship while playing in Tyler with a club team.
