BMS ‘A’ football teams take wins over Eagles; ‘B’ teams improving
The seventh-grade Bullard Panthers, ‘A’ team defeated the Rusk Eagles by a score of 14-0 this past Thursday at the middle school’s, Panther Stadium. Quarterback, Conner Mebane scored twice in the first half for all the points the Panthers would need. The first tally came on a on a 8- yard run. Late in the first half, Conner Mebane added a second touchdown on a 18 yard runs with Brentavia Henderson adding the two-point conversion to wrap up the victory. Outstanding play by Connally Henshaw, Ty Williams, Slater Rodberg, Matthew Carr, and Cade Wood. Also, the Panther kickoff team did an outstanding job last night. In the ‘B’ Team game the Bullard Panthers and the Rusk Eagles played to a 0-0 tie. Both teams found it tough running against the stone wall defenses. Outstanding players for the Panthers were Zach May, Tyler Kelly, Dante Byerly, Reed Nolly, Christian Wade, and Corey Gray had a big fumble recovery to end the hopes of the Rusk Eagles. BULLARD - The Bullard eighth-grade team promised head coach Dennis Beavers a win at the middle school pep-rally on Thursday.
Still looking for their first win, the Panthers (1-1), got two long runs from Austin Skelton en route to a 24-20 win over a fast, and talented Rusk Eagle eighthgrade.
Skelton wasted little time getting the scoring going as he blasted 90-yards on the first play from scrimmage for the early lead at 6- 0.
The Eagles however answered back right behind a 3-yard plunge by quarterback, Rayquist Sturns.
Not to be outdone, Bullard bowed-up and scored the rest of the points they could manage before the intermission break.
Fleet-footed, Isiah Burton plugged in for an electrifying 85-yard scoring blast. Bullard signal-caller, Hunter Landrum then capped off a long drive for an 18-8 lead for the Panthers.
Rusk answered back with a long TD reception, yet Bullard found a way to counter as Skelton scooted in from 49-yards for the final Bullard tally.
The Eagles managed one fourth quarter touchdown as Johnson hauled in a nine-yard scoring toss from Sturns.
Defensively for Bullard Brandon Cooper made a clutch sack, and Dylan White came up with big plays on two, fourth-down and short situations for the defensive turnarounds.
Landon Beckham was also credited with several tackles, and two pass breakups.
The eight-grade ‘B’ game, Rusk scored one touchdown but it was enough for the 6-0 win over the Panthers.
Anthony Rodriguez ran in from 13-yards out for the 6-0 halftime and final score.
