VFD to host 30th anniversary celebration
The Lake Palestine East Volunteer Fire Department will host its 30th anniversary celebration Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Cherokee County Livestock and Exposition Center, Southwest Loop 456, in Jacksonville.
The celebration will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and it will feature a C.A.S.I. sanctioned chili cook-off, a car show, an auction and live music.
The entry fee for the chili cook-off will be $20 and entries will be due by 1 p.m.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. for the car and truck show. The classes will include restored original, modified and 1990s and newer. The entry fee for the car and truck show is $15, and judging will begin at noon.
The auction will be hosted by the Longriders Motorcycle Club.
Grant Cook, the Johnson Ford Band and D2S will perform at the celebration.
Admission to the car show and live music will cost $5 for adults, $2 for children 5-12, and children under 5 will be free. Chili tasting will cost an additional $2.
