Rusk County Grand Jury returned 68 indictments, Friday, including one for Justin Gregory Rainer, 22, of Bullard, on first degree murder.

Rainer, 22, was indicted on first-degree murder charge and bond was set at $1 million after Justin Raner confessed to the fatal shooting of his younger brother over the July 4 weekend.

Rusk County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Amber Rogers said deputies responded to a call about 8:45 a.m., July 4, on County Road 364 in Rusk County in reference to the discovery of a body.

When deputies arrived they found the body of 19- year-old Jeremy Raner near a wooded area in a hay pasture. The body was initially discovered by stepfather Glenn Holladay.

Rogers said investigators from several area law enforcement agencies, including RCSO, Rusk County District Attorney’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Rangers, were on the scene to assist in the investigation. Rusk County Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace Seth Stein pronounced Jeremy dead and ordered the body sent for an autopsy.

Rusk County District Attorney’s Office Investigator William Brown and Texas Ranger Kenneth Bond interviewed Justin July 5.

According to official affidavit, Justin admitted during the interview that he shot his brother, Jeremy and attempted to hide the body.

The affidavit further sates that Justin took Brown and Bond to a rural location where the murder weapon and additional bullets were recovered.

During the interview, Justin told investigators he had committed the murder because his brother had made him angry during an argument.

According to Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jason Clark, Justin had been a correctional officer at the Hodges Unit in the city of Rusk since June 2008.
