The Bullard Library The Bullard Library will sponsor activities for students and children in the Bullard area Saturday.
Children will be invited to participate in "The Great Kindness Challenge," a program sponsored by Kids for Peace.
To participate, children will be able to perform any of about 50 listed kindnesses. There are several very simple kindnesses. For example, they can smile at 25 people, call grandma or grandpa or hold a door open for someone.
Some very practical kindnesses also are listed, such as planting a tree, singing a song at a senior citizens center or doing a household chore without being asked.
The list is available at the library and area children will be able to participate from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Of course, adults also are more than welcome to take up the "challenge" of being kind.
Head Librarian Joanne Buendtner has several programs scheduled at the Bullard Library.
"I'd like this to be a place for fun," she said of the library.
The summer reading program is still under way. The deadline is Aug. 15. The Monday Night Movie this week was "Heidi," and that special program will conclude Monday, Aug. 10 with the movie, "Night at the Museum." The movie starts at 7 p.m. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
The library also offers a scrapbooking workshop the third Saturday of each month. The next workshop will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15.
The library functions on a limited budget that includes some donations and some help from the Friends of the Bullard Community Library which will sponsor a golf tournament to benefit the library Sept. 21 at Eagles Bluff. Details of the tournament are available on the library's Web site at www.bullardlibrary.org.
The library continues to serve the community with the help of all of the citizens. One of the pressing needs is a Wii, an electronic game made by Nintendo. The cost is around $250 to $300. Anyone interested in providing the game or the funds to purchase it may call the library at (903) 894-6125 or just purchase it and drop it off.
Another way to support the library is to become a member and check out books. The library also has computers and more.
Eventually, a new building will be constructed, but more about that later. Meanwhile, visit and enjoy the Bullard Library.
