The Bullard Heat splits games in state tourney

It was Lasseter who had a key three-run homerun that clinched the state tourney bid for The Heat in district play over the Whitehouse Heartbreakers. The Heat represented Bullard well going 2-2 at state while fielding the youngest team in the tournament. ATHENS - The Bullard Heat went in to the TTSA state tournament as the youngest team, and finished out their season winning two games and losing two at Cain Park this last week.
The Heat won the opening game against Edgewood, 12-2 behind multiple hits from Sarah Wakefield, Lainie Lasseter, Ashleigh Gillard, and Sarah Ritch.
The Heat appeared to be headed to the undefeated game next, but saw a 4-0, Heat lead flip over in to a 5-4 win for Athens.
Over one-hour and 15-minutes of waiting because of lightning put a cramp in The Heat's style as the umpires cleared the field.
(Photos by Doc Smith) The Athens crew however came back strong in the final two innings to take the win.
Facing eliminiation with another loss, The Heat was trailing 4-0 to Bosqueville, before the Bullard crew stormed back with six runs in the third inning to take a 6-4 lead. The Heat added on six more runs in the fourth inning for the 12-5 final score.
In their final game of the year, The Heat ran up against a hot-hitting, team from Brownwood, and bowed out of the tournament with a 10-0, loss.
Brownwood then turned around and lost to the host team Athens, by a score of 19-2, to eliminate the Brownwood team.
Team members for the Heat include Abby Covey, Ashleigh Gillard, Lainie Lasseter, Morgan Brooks, Hannah Smith, Kaitlyn Stains, Sarah Ritch, Sarah Wakefield, Haley Lombardo, Morgan Clark and pick up players, Kelly Emerine from Frankston and Macey Wade from the Whitehouse Lady Bombers.
Coaches for the team include Matt Wakefield, John Stains, and Ricky Clark.
The Heat finished the season with a overall record of 16-6.
