Prospects program; showcase Rumbelow and Rose with big test to play the best

The inaugural Texas Prospects July 4th Showcase ended up coming down to the two locally-based team of high school all-stars to battle for the top spot. So despite the verdict, the Prospect were going to win.

The final game was halted after one-inning with lightning threats all around Herrington Field on the University of Texas at Tyler campus. The two teams earned the finals spot, with earlier wins on Sunday.

The Texas Prospects Black beat the San Antonio Wranglers, 9-1 in the first semi-final in the morning.

Spring Hill's, and Arkansas-bound, Garrett Methvin went the first four inning, striking out 12. Justin Jenkins of Hallsville came on to close out the win. Offensively for the Prospects-Black, Connor Lloyd of Harleton homered.

The Prospects-Red followed that up with a 9-1, win over the Waco Buzz to set up the one-game finale. Mount Pleasant's, Lucas Quary was stout on the mound and to get the win, while Jake Ashley doubled, and four teammates had multiple-hit games.

The Texas Prospects-Black will play in Shreveport next weekend in the Centenary University Showcase.

The Prospects-Red squad will travel to Waco to participate in the McClellan College Shootout.

Other teams in Tyler and Whitehouse for the four-day first-time event in the 18U division included the highlyranked, Dallas Tiger; Texas Blackhawks, Ft. Worth Cats, Waco Buzz Lightning, San Antonio Wranglers, Dallas Dragons, Texas Stix, Austin Centex Crush, Texas Prospects-Red, Texas Prospects-Black. These are Texas Showcase League members.

Other win for the Texas Black team came with a 12-3 win over Austin Centex Crush, beating the San Antonio Wranglers 11-1, in one game and 9-1 in the semi-final, and The Prospects Red team started with a 12-2, win over the Texas Stix, then beat the Texas Blackhawks, 12-4.

Friday second day results had the Red team take a 8-2 win over the Fort Worth Cats, and the Black team stayed undefeated with a 11-7 win over the Waco Buzz Lightning.

Saturday, the Black team advanced with a 6-3, win over the Fort Worth Cats, and the Red team beat the Dallas Dragons 11-9, for the semi-finals bid.
