AUSTIN - Although East Texans dominated the Class 3A, 2009 Texas Sports Writers Association All-State Softball Team, the TSWA released last Saturday.

Nominations were taken from coaches around the state and then voted on by the TSWA.

In Class 3A, six East Texans earned firstteam honors including Bullard's district rival, and state final four participant, pitcher Kayla Williams of Spring Hill.

Her battery-mate however is Bullard's own; catcher Alayna Kipp.

Kipp finished out her year as the district Offensive Player of the Year, batting at a .571 clip for district, with three doubles and three triples.

Wish I had a vote that counted because one huge mis-justice was the only other Lady Panther to receive any recognition was Bullard's pitcher, Erin Kipp.

Finishing her junior season with over 1, 000 strikeouts in three season, Kipp was also a .400 hitter, in the lead off spot for Bullard. In the shadow of Sping Hill's Williams with her team success, Kipp got jipped from superlatives in district and the honorable mention is far below the expected from these eyes.

Also others that deserved some type of nod included Chelsea Foreman, Ashley Gwartney as first team all-district award winners.

Ignored again were district second-teamers, Mandy Gillard (.426 avg.), and Ashlee Shidler from any honorable mentions kudos at least.

The Lady Panthers were the district champs, and lost to Huntington in a one-game playoff in the regional semi-finals

NOTE: There were five players from Van, three from the other Lady Panthers from Spring Hill, and the two from Bullard and Rusk for the only East Texas multiple team player nominees.Kayla Williams, the Spring Hill pitcher was named first team as was Pittsburg's, third baseman, NeNe Frazier. Van's designated player, Kayla Chitty, and outfielder, Jessica Marshburn were first teamers also.

The second team was started with pitcher, Shelly Harris of Van, Arika Minchew of Rusk at third base, and Spring Hill, shortstop Ashley Campbell getting the nod.

Third teamers from East Texas included Rusk pitcher, Callie Collins, and Van teammates, Chasity Smith and Brittany Wood.

Joining Erin Kipp on the honorable mention list are Spring Hill, first baseman, Lizzie Autrey, and Van's, Chelsea Moore.
