Par partners attend Evian LPGA Masters
Mal and Beverly Burklow golf together at Eagle's Bluff Golf Course to get in a few holes before they set off on a vacation to the 2009 LPGA Masters in Evian, France at the end of the month. The couple flies to France every year for the Masters, to celebrate Mrs. Burklow's birthday. The couple started the tradition in 2006. Putting partners, Mal and Beverly Burklow, are headed off on another adventure - this time to the 2009 Évian LPGA Masters.
The Couple vacations in Évian every year for Beverly's birthday.
"We first went to Évian a few years back," Mal said. "When I checked in at our hotel and the lobby was quiet - except for hotel staff we were alone - then more staff comes out of nowhere with a tremendous bouquet of flowers for my wife and tell us we are the very first guests to check in."
From that moment the Burklows were invited to stay in the Évian Hilton during the week of the LPGA Masters - for free - for life.
"We aren't going to pass that opportunity up," Mal said. "We both love golf, so we go - every year."
The first trip was in 2006. When the couple returned in 2007 the hotel threw them a big party. In 2008 the missed the trip, to take a family cruise. This is their first trip back since 2007 and they are looking forward to the golf tournament and the reunion with their new friends in Évian.
Along the way and over the years the Burklows have met many people and make that part of their yearly ritual. They fly into Frankfurt, Germany and they take a train three hours to Interlochen, Switzerland. From Interlochen it is a 200 mile drive to Évian.
The couple leaves July 15 for Beverly's birthday bash. The LPGA Masters is the following week.
