Project Linus is a non-profit national organization with a wonderful mission. It is their mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need , through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers." Project Linus was named after the adorable security blanket toting character from the "Peanuts" comic strip.
The Tyler Chapter of this fine organization provides blankets to ETMC, Mother Frances, Children's Advocacy, Child Protective Services, Hospice, and the ETMC Behavioral Health Center (which admits an average of 60 new juvenile patients a month). Mrs. Angela Norwood, Tyler Chapter Coordinator, visited Mrs. Gibson's class to share her appreciation for their help, and she even took part in making blankets alongside them.
This service project was a very rewarding and fun opportunity for the class. The students learned the importance of helping others through serving others.
