Letter to the Editor

Editor,

Tea parties are Political Theater.

The Republican Party is good at political theater, but not governing. The Tea Parties, Convention flip flop sandals and Karnack the Magician of the 2000 Recount are all effective political theater. But, the policies established by this theater have bankrupted the country.

President Obama spoke last week of public policy driven by a larger vision for America's future. One were sustained economic growth creates good jobs and rising incomes. A future where prosperity is fueled not by excessive debt, or reckless speculation, or fleeting profits, but is built by skilled, productive workers and sound investments that will spread opportunity for all.

He said his words this week would be prose, not poetry and that he wanted to speak honestly of the progress we've made as a nation and the pitfalls that may lie ahead. It was a speech well worth reading.

We have a choice - we can listen to political theater, or be futurists who believe in the opportunity and strength of America. I'm a believer., Joanna Reagan Bullard Resident
