Smith County residents can now pick up their vouchers for the annual Smith County Wide Cleanup Event. This is an opportunity for residents of Smith County to bring trash and bulky items to the Greenwood Farms Landfill for free. Smith County Environmental Crimes Unit, Precinct Constables, and Smith County Commissioners Court are working together to host the event April 8- 11,

This year the County will provide vouchers to the public that are good for up to 3 cubic yards per person. A full-sized truck bed is approximately 3 cubic yards. Vouchers are available to pick up at all Justice of the Peace and Constable Precinct offices.

"It is our hope that more citizens will be able to participate and take advantage of our services this year. We are expanding the event to make it more convenient to the average citizen." Environmental Crimes Detective Tommy Goodman said. "We hope the voucher system provides more flexibility."

In the past, this project was held for half a day on a Saturday in April. Many Smith County citizens were unable to participate because of the limited time frame.

Vouchers are available at all Constable Offices. Citizens will receive one voucher per household; however, businesses may not participate in the voucher program.

The vouchers will be good for Wednesday- Friday, 6:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and on Saturday 6:30 a.m. to noon in the week of April 8-11. The vouchers will be attached to a list of items that the Greenwood Farms Landfill will not take. Directions and a map to the Greenwood Farms Landfill will be provided with the vouchers.

Items not accepted during the County Wide Clean-up include: hazardous waste, pesticides, herbicides, solvents, gasoline, oils, paint, acid, batteries, asbestos, Freon, whole tires, refrigerators, freezers, televisions and computers.
