Guard starts off season with blow out against ETCA
BULLARD - The Guard blew up with 11 runs in the fourth inning to end their season opener via the tenrun mercy rule, defeating East Texas Christian Academy 17-2, last Thursday night. The game was a make up from a rain out earlier in the week on Tuesday. Yasu Ohmukai led off the Guard's first inning with a walk. One batter later, J.B. Moss plated the first run of the year with a triple, and Brook Hill was off to a 5-0 lead after one stanza. Eleven more runs on a plethora of extra base hits by The Guard put the game out of reach for the visitors. Ohmukai, Tanner Bailey, Ian Sudduth and Chris Dawson each ripped doubles for The Guard in the runaway. On the mound for Brook Hill, three pitchers combined for the one-hitter. Dawson worked the first two innings unscathed before Bailey came on to maintain the shutout through four innings, to earn the win. Jimmy Johnson came on the final innings and was touched for two runs, off one hit a couple of walks, and a little nifty base running by losing pitcher, Hunter Pirtle for the 17-2, final count. Spring Hill will come to Bullard to play the Guard on Monday at 6 p.m. See this edition for the story.
Brook Hill first baseman, Tanner Bailey, closes out the first inning after making an unassisted one-hop grab and touches the bag.
