BULLARD - The Brook Hill Guard utilized strong halftime adjustments and came out smoking for a third quarter track meet that lead to defeat Beaumont Legacy Christian Academy, 54-42, at Herrington Gymnasium on Tuesday in the area round of the TAPPS Class 3A basketball playoffs.

Legacy was up to the test for the first half, matching Brook Hill bucket-forbucket, Legacy leading 15- 13 after one period, and 23- 21, halftime advantage.

"Legacy is a well coached team and they were well prepared for us," Brook Hill head coach Dawkins said. "It took us a little while to settle down and start playing our game instead of their's, but they pulled together as a team and got it done."

Head Coach, Wally Dawkins went to the chalk board, the troops regrouped and The Guard made the third quarter charge as Chappelle turned up the offense and Brook Hill began to own the paint.

Brook Hill's Courtney Thomas broke a 27-27 tie with a put-back at the 3:35 mark in the third and extended the lead to eight with a 3-point play a minute later.

The Guard ended the quarter on a 10-1 run and led by at least nine the rest of the way.

Jeremy Chappelle did most of the damage as he scored 25 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and made five steals.

"We have some common ground in opponents we have played this season, but in the playoffs it's a whole different thing," said Dawkins about the next game. "The Highlands has one of the top scorers in TAPPS in the state, and stopping him is going to be a key for us."

Legacy Christian ends its season 23-15. Brook Hill advances to face Irving The Highlands, which defeated Katy Faith West 71-57 Tuesday. The regional is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Pope John Paul II High School in Plano. A there earns the Guard a berth in the state tournament.
