Panthers late run puts away Henderson

BULLARD - The Henderson Lions just would not go away for three and one-half quarters this past Friday night at Panther gym.

Daniel Howard and Lance Anding stepped up to lead a 13-2, fourth quarter run that put the game away for the 59-51, win.

Up by 55-44 with twominutes remaining, Henderson got four points from Hunter Skelton to close the game to 55-48. Skelton led all scorers in the game with 18 points.

Leading 57-51, Anding then stepped to the charity stripe and sealed away the win with two crucial freethrows for the win.

Brandon Beavers started out strong for Bullard, scoring six of nine first quarter points, as Henderson led 10-9 after the first period. Beavers continued to keep the Panthers close with his inside game but the Panthers still trailed 25-23 at the halftime intermission.

Bullard started the second half on a 9-2 run, behind a tip-in from Beavers and a baseline jumper from Howard to comeback for a 50-36 lead going into the final period.

Beavers added 11 rebounds and five steals to his all-round effort for the win.

Howard, and Anding took over from there to nail down the 59-51, final score.

In the junior varsity game, Scott Starwart scored 21 points to lead the Panthers to a 60-49, win.

Guards, Kirk Bryant and Jace Deese added 13 and 11 points to add to the Bullard totals in the win.

The freshmen team continues to have its struggles after losing 61-25, after falling behind 8-0 to start the game.

All three Panthers boys teams will travel to Canton on Monday for the final tune-up before district starts next Friday night on the road against Gladewater.
