Whataburger Classic tougher test for Panthers

BURLESON -- The Bullard Panthers record dropped to 11-9 ledger on the year over the holiday break as one of 16 teams playing in the highly competitive Blue Division of the Whataburger Holiday Classic, held at Burleson High School.

The Panthers opened up the tourney with a 58-52 win over Class 1A, state-ranked Slocum.

Bullard then faced Peaster and lost, 53-46, to the Class 2A?s, No. 4 team, and lost an elimination game to Krum, 63- 50.

Krum was No. 3 in Class 2A in the last TABC rankings.

"This was a tough tournament but we knew that coming in," said head coach, Hank Hargraves after the tournament. "We played really well at times, and then other times we had too many mental mistakes that we have got to eliminate going in to district play."

Ponder defeated Burburnett, 67-64 for the title, Peaster lost to Argyle for thirdplace, 62-47, and Krum bested Brock, 80-60 for fifth place.

The Panthers will play at Jacksonville on Tuesday night. Freshmen will play at 5 p.m., junior varsity at 6 p.m. and the varsity set for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff

GAME ONE.

Bullard 58, Slocum 52

Josiah Rosebury scored 23 points as the Panthers chalked up a first round win over a stateranked, Slocum, 58-52. Lance Anding added on 1 8 points, with two, 3-pointers. Jared Lance paced the Slocum scoring with a team-high, 22 points, nailing three, 3-pointers.

GAME TWO

Peaster 53, Bullard 46

Peaster used a strong inside game, and patience to take the 53-46 win over Bullard, placing the Panthers in the elimination bracket of the game. Peaster only hade five players score, but three of those players scored 12 points or more to take the win. Henry Barry led all scorers in the game with 20 points. Bullard was paced by Rosebury and Daniel Howard with 14 and 13 points, with Rosebury hitting three, 3- pointers in the game.

GAME THREE

Krum 63, Bullard 50 Krum rode the hot-shooting of Kellin Arris (21 points), and Kyle Dodd (16 points) to take the win over Bullard and end their holiday tournament with a 1-2 record in tourney play. Charlie Moore led the Panthers in scoring with 12 points, followed by Rosebury with 11, and Anding with nine points. Krum jumped to a 14-8, first quarter lead but closed the gap to a 27- 22, Krum advantage before pulling away for the win the last half.
