Isaac Maple earns Scout's top honor

Maple
Isaac Maple, son of Mark and Lisa Maple received his Eagle Scout award in a Court of Honor ceremony on May 3 at Bullard Southern Baptist Church's Family Life Center.

This is Boy Scouting's highest award and is earned by fewer than 5 percent of all scouts that enter the scouting program.

He is a senior at Bullard High School and has been in scouting since the first grade.

Isaac is only the fifth Eagle Scout from Bullard's Troop 366 in more than 19 years to receive Scouting's highest award.

He is also active in the local lodge of the Order of the Arrow where he is Administrative Lodge Chief in charge of elections.

Part of obtaining the Eagle Rank requires completion of a community service project. Isaac led a group of 12-15 scouts and adults in a smoke alarm safety campaign.

Thanks to the generosity of Kidde Smoke Alarms, Batteries Plus, Lance Eitel Farmers Insurance and Tom McDonald State Farm Insurance more than 75 smoke alarms and 100 smoke alarm batteries as well as information reminding citizens to check their smoke alarm batteries each time-change weekend were distributed at the local Brookshire's on time change weekend.

Fire Chief Keith Newburn with the Bullard Volunteer Fire Department and one of Isaac's former scoutmasters assisted by bringing the new ladder fire truck to draw attention to the campaign.

Isaac is active in his youth group at Bullard Southern Baptist Church and plans to attend Dallas Baptist University in the fall, majoring in computer science.
