Training set for beef producers

Beef producers can obtain free training to help them become more competitive in the marketplace by attending a Texas Beef Quality Producers (TBQP) program in Lindale on May 2.

The TBQP, which teaches the principles of Beef Quality Assurance, was developed to assist cattlemen in producing a safer, more wholesome food product.

Better beef management practices help deliver a better meal to consumers.

Good eating experiences bring repeat customers to the one product that all cattlemen produce - beef.

The TBQP program is built upon a proven system of Best Management Practices.

This day long training will include topics such as: industry updates; record keeping; environmental stewardship; and proper management practices associated with genetic selection, culling, cattle handling, vaccination, drug use and much more.

The TBQP program is a joint educational effort by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service, the Texas Beef Council (TBC), and the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA).

For more information on the TBQP program visit http://www.texasbeefquality.co m/.

The training is free, and a beef lunch will be served.

Pre-registration to Stacy Fox at 800-242-7820 or sfox@texascattleraisers.org by April 29 is requested.

The training, which begins with registration at 7:20 a.m., will conclude at 5 p.m.

The location is the Kinzie Community Center at Lindale's Poole Park (912 Mount Sylvan Road, FM 849).

Funding for the Lindale event is provided by the TSCRA, the checkoff dollars from the TBC, and sponsorships from Cargill Cattle Feeders and Pfizer Animal Health.

For more information about this event, you may also contact the Smith County Extension office at 903-590- 2980.
