'Living History' slated for weekend Several groups are joining forced to put together a "Living History Event" at Camp Ford this weekend. Slated for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday - in conjunction with the Azalea Festival, re-enactors throughout Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana will be on hand with the Captain James P. Douglas Camp, The Douglas Texas Batter and the Emma Sansom Chapter to relive the history of Camp Ford. There will be overnight encampments both nights. Throughout Saturday and Sunday, in addition to cannon firings, infantry drill, musket volleys and flag presentations, there will be skirmishes, infantry company street, weapons demonstrations, soldier equipment and haversack contents, shirt sewing and more. Retirement of Confederate Flags ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday. Church service is at 10 a.m. Sunday. There is no charge for admission, but donations will be accepted. The event is held by the East Texas Brigade, Sons of Confederate Veterans, the Texas Society, Order of the Confederate Rose, the East Texas Descendants of Confederate Veterans and the Smith County Historical Society.
