Touring artist comes to Tyler this weekend

Harst
"HURRY SLOWLY: One Life, Many Choices", a oneman show written and performed by actor, singer, guitarist, writer and performance artist, Rudolf Harst, will run for one night only at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Tyler, 1629 Old Omen Road.

Admission is $15 at the door.

Based in San Antonio, Rudolf Harst is a touring performance artist whose uplifting and thoroughly entertaining show takes a clear-eyed look at the possibility of creating a new story for oneself while living in a culture of conformity. Employing an unusual and eclectic blend of original songs, insightful stories, sly wit and stylized movements, it's a warmhearted, musical dharmadrama which "Harst presents in a particularly compelling and amusing way" (San Antonio Express-News) and "has the audience clapping, smiling and singing along"

Harst's delightful collection of songs, skits, dance and drama will be accompanied by musical director Ray Palmer (keyboards) with Dirje Smith (cello) and David Hendley (percussion).

The show is directed by Chuck Squier, co-founder and member of Jump Start Performance Company of San Antonio and Assistant Professor of Speech and Drama at Palo Alto College.

He has deep roots in East Texas, having been born and raised Kilgore, and graduated from Kilgore Junior College and Stephan F. Austin.

The show is produced by Karen Hendley, whose many credits include "Seussical" at the Cherokee Civic Theatre in Rusk.

For additional information call 903-795-3779.

Based on Harst's book of creative non-fiction with the same title, "HURRY SLOWLY" is a warm-hearted mixture of comedy and drama, fact and fantasy.

His unique blend of original songs, stories and stylized movement is built on multiple layers of awareness.

Moreover, Harst has a remarkable ability to draw audience members into laughing, crying, singing, clapping and toe-tapping along as he spins a web that is part modern performance art, part old-fashioned hootenanny.

Singer, writer and performance artist Rudolf Harst began his career in the early 70s, quickly developing a reputation for his eclectic style and a willingness to perform in an unusually wide range of venues, Harst developed the ability to improvise and adapt his shows to fit the particular venue or audience of the moment - a skill which he has honed in theaters, conferences, concerts, corporations, churches, schools, hospitals, libraries, museums and festivals throughout the country.

"HURRY SLOWLY" represents a finely-tuned distillation of those abilities in a highly entertaining, audience friendly format.

Harst studied acting at the Jean Shelton School of Acting in San Francisco and was a member of the Motion Performance Company in Oakland, Calif.

In addition to "Hurry Slowly," he has published numerous articles and recorded eight albums of original music.
