Bullard High School band competes at UIL

First Division winners

The Bullard High School Band competed at the Region XXI UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest on Saturday, Feb. 9 on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches.

The Panther Band had 31 students competing on woodwind, brass and percussion solos and ensembles.

"I am very proud of all these students that competed," said band director Gary Jordan.

Studying and performing this literature, that they do not see in the full band setting, helps make our band program better.

"Congratulations to all 31 of these students who competed, " Jordan said.

Ten students received Division II (Excellent) ratings: Bass Clarinet Solo: Brys Cheek, Trombone Solo: Judson Watkins, Trombone Trio: Damian Pettigrew, Judson Watkins, and Donald Love, Percussion Ensemble: Evan Jones, Ciera Weston, Rebecca Rudolf, Crystal Hill, and John Gardner.

Eigtht students received Division I (Superior) ratings on solos and 22 received Division I (Superior) ratings on their ensembles giving the Panther Band 30 First Division gold medals at the U.I.L. Regional Contest.

Twenty-two of these students that received a First Division rating will advance to the State Solo & Ensemble Contest.
