BHS students participate in a Model UN
Staff Reports

Students in the Bullard High School gifted and talented program recently participated in the Model United Nations sponsored by Region VII Education Service Center.

The Model United Nations is a long-term simulation in which students research the social, political, and economic factors and issues that determine the identity of a sovereign state.

The research culminated in a two-day Model United Nations meeting on Feb. 4-5 at the Cowan Center on the campus of UT-Tyler in which students served as delegates from a chosen nation.

Debates, voting blocs, resolution writing, student products, decision making, collaborating, problem solving, and persuasive, impromptu, and formal speaking all played a significant role in the success of each delegate and in the Model UN itself.

This year BHS students served as pages and observed the meetings of the security council committees and general assembly.

Participating students were Macey Brown, Ranee Fredericks, James Johnson, Cale Pinion, Laura Rudlof, Wichya Russell, Kaitlin Timmins, Suzanne Warden and Judson Watkins.
