Fire destroys vacant structure near Bullard
By Lori Mellinger editor@bullardnews.com

Bullard Fire Chief Keith Newburn said the cause of the blaze that destroyed an abandoned structure near Bullard was still under investigation as of Monday.

The Bullard department assisted first-responders Lake Palestine East - one of whose members actually called in the fire at about 8 p.m. on Sunday.

"The structure had - to my knowledge - been vacant for quite some time," Newburn said. "But there was still electricity running to it."

The 900-square-foot wood-frame house, located in the Stone Chimney addition on the corner of FM 3608 and CR 855, was completely destroyed.

"We stayed out there until about midnight," Newburn said. "But it was completely engulfed when we arrived."

Cherokee County Fire Marshal Jack White was on hand and will be conducting the investigation as to the cause of the fire.

When asked if circumstances could be arson, Newburn said it was too soon to make a judgment call.

No one was hurt as a result of the fire.
