Tyler library kicks off after-school reading club

Thursday afternoons this spring, Tyler Public Library offers elementary children the chance to be part of an afterschool reading club called `AfterSchool Rules!"

The weekly reading incentive program is designed for children in grades kindergarten through fifth and meets each Thursday from 3:30-5 p.m. at the library.

Elementary students earn patches as they track their reading and explore new books and authors. Reading and story building games are a part of each session, and every week the children will spend time reading aloud with an adult or teen "reading buddy."

"Our goal with "AfterSchool Rules!" is to provide school-age children with an introduction to fine classic and contemporary literature," said Evelyn James, Library programming associate. "We want to encourage kids and their families to be life-long learners and make reading a

habit."

"AfterSchool Rules!"

meets in the library's Taylor Auditorium, 201 S. College St. in downtown Tyler.

Spring sessions are under way and continue through May 15.

The public is welcome, and no registration or fees are required. For more information, contact the library at 903- 593-7323 (READ) or e-mail: programs@tylertexas.com.
