AARP looking for assistance Volunteers are needed to assist low and middle income tax payers, especially age 60 and older, to prepare their 2007 Federal Income Tax Returns. Volunteers may serve as a counselor or a client facilitator. This is a free service provided by the AARP Foundation (a non-profit charity) in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). AARP Membership is not required to be a volunteer. Counselors should have experience preparing tax returns and computer skills are preferred. Counselors will need to pass an IRS Exam to be certified to prepare tax returns for others. A self-study book is provided along with formal training from Jan. 21-25, 2008. Client facilitators serve as receptionists. Three hour training will be provided Jan. 29, 2008. Volunteers work 1-2 five hour shifts per week during the tax season (Feb. 1-April 15, 2008). AARP Foundation offers mileage reimbursement.
