Panther boys face test in Whataburger Classic

BURLESON - The Bullard Panthers will be looking to better their 10-7 record over the holiday break as one of 16 teams playing in the highly competitive Whataburger Holiday Classic held at Burleson High School.

The tourney features various smaller state-ranked schools of which will prove to be a true test before district play approaches against Chapel Hill,

Bullard had their last game with Rusk cancelled, and lost to Hallsville 84-73 at home in their last game.

In Burleson, the Panthers will play a first-round game against state-ranked, Class 1A, Slocum at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.

Their next game will be determined by the Jim Ned (2A) and Peaster (1A), matchup. Both teams are ranked among the state's toptwenty in their respective classifications.

The winners of the first round games will then play on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

If Bullard losses, they would play at 5 p.m. on Tuesday against the loser of that same Peaster-Jim Ned contest.

Also in the Bullard bracket is top-ranked Burkburnett that will be another huge test for the Panthers should they matchup.

Burkburnett lost in the state finals last year, but most recently defeated Whitehouse in the championship game of the ? tournament.

Teams also listed in the same bracket-play are perennial powers, and state-ranked, Krum and Lipan.

In the lower bracket, Brock, Shallowwater, Argyle, Fort Worth Christian (TAPPS champ), Grafford (loser to Ponder is state final last year), a proven Fairfield, a fullyloaded Cayuga, and always a TAPPS playoff team, Tyler- All Saints.

Next on the Bullard agenda will a return to play Tuesday, Jan. 6 as they entertain Jacksonville at Panther gymnasium.

Freshmen will play at 5 p.m., junior varsity at 6 p.m. and the varsity set for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
