Chamber has record year
The Bullard Chamber of Commerce has had a record year both in membership and the money raised throughout the calendar year.
According to treasurer Sherri Glover, the Chamber raised more the $50,000, compared to last years $32,000. On top of that, chamber officials estimate that they had a membership increase of more than 30 percent.
The Festival this year raised over $23,600.00. The Fun Run (Armforces Day Event) raised the $11,000.00. This event was headed by John Alexander and Darline McKay and this was sponsored by ETMC.
New officers President Brian Capps, Vice President Larry Melhart, second vice President David French, Treasurer Sherri Glover and Jill Gabriel.
Only three Board of Director positions were vacated on. Members include: Jay Abercrombie, Mike Alexander and Lindsay Baranski.
Everything has changed in the Chamber, from the way decision are made to the outcome of the Red, White and Blue Festival. The Festival this year raise more than $11,000, Glover said, where last year the event hardly raised any money.
Bullard Chamber Board of Director Teresa Adams- Wilks said that the chamber has made sure everyone is held accountable for the money spent in the Chamber. For example, a check request form for reimbursement must be signed by the president and one board member.
In an effort to change things at the chamber and get things accomplished, the chamber had a vote on its bylaws.
At a time when rumored growth is on the lips of city council members, school administrators and locals across Bullard, the chamber is about to change its bylaws and consider building a permanent facility in the city.
The bylaws give power to the chamber board of directors who will be able to delegate duties and responsibilities. The chamber had problems agreeing on anything because every member is able to vote on the direction of every event, task and law.
