Guard falls to defending state champs Laneville
LANEVILLE - The Brook Hill Guard Varsity Boys Basketball team lost a tough game in a tough place to play, losing to the defending class A State Champion, Laneville Tuesday night by a score of 64-58.
The game was a see-saw battle tied at 52 all with 2:45 left in front of a rowdy Laneville home crowd. Laneville hit a 3-pointer and converted an untimely Guard turnover into an easy lay-up to take a 5 point lead late in the game.
"We have played very well at times" Head Coach Wally Dawkins noted of the 7-4 Guard varsity. "I see us gelling together in some phases, but leaving a lot of work to do in others."
Brook Hill will continue a Dawkins tradition and go west to play in the Abilene Wylie Lions Club Tourney. Dawkins' coached team as his Whitehouse squads ventured west for 17 seasons and won the tournament 14 times. "It is a great trip for our kid," Dawkins said. "We try to build team unity, some cohesiveness, and it gives us a chance to be good representatives for our school in a part of Texas that has probably never heard of The Brook Hill School.
"It is a great opportunity for our players and we face mostly U.I.L. AAA competition. So it is a good challenge also."
