Becky Taylor, was recently named last week's American Southwest Conference East Division Player of the Week, leading the way for UT Tyler offensively and defensively to another good start for head coach Terri Dieke's team this season.
The New Caney native is a junior forward for the UT Tyler women's basketball team earning the award with consistent play and a school record to add to the honor. Taylor is the daughter of Bullard athletic director Jim Taylor and is proud to represent the Bullard area on the Patriots squad.
"I played my high school ball at New Caney and then I actually transferred to Tyler before my dad was even hired to coach at Bullard," the rather quiet Taylor said. "Then I talked with Coach Dieke about playing, because I really missed it, and so far everything is working out great."
Taylor has posted four double-doubles to start the season for the Patriots (3-1, 1-0). Shooting at a 53 percent clip, the 5-9 senior is second in the ASC in scoring (17.3) and first in rebounding (12.3). Later last week in a game against Texas Lutheran, the junior Taylor, found her way into the Patriot record books during Saturday's 82-64 victory over Texas Lutheran.
Taylor pulled down 17 rebounds in the game to set a new UT Tyler singlegame mark. Taylor also scored 17 points to complete her fourth double-double of the young season.
