The Bullard school district celebrated the life of Audry B. Owens last weekend, naming the new theater after a man who helped shape Bullard ISD into what it is today.

Owens, who was a student in the school district and served on the Bullard School Board of Trustees, obtained the land for Bullard schools. Owens was remembered as a man of integrity, honesty and a man with a strong faith in God.

"I know Audry would be very proud," said Kenneth King, a former Bullard ISD Board of Trustee and close friend to Owens said.

Owens daughter Kim Murphy, who is a teacher at Bullard High School, was at the event Sunday.

"He would be honored but humbled," she said. "He cared about everybody and wanted what was best for Bullard."

The theater dedication cer- emony marked a special day in the district. Bullard has never had a theater like this one.

"Today marks another special day in the history of our school district," Bryant said. "We celebrate fine arts. We celebrate progress and achievement. We celebrate the fact that we are not a district that is one-dimensional, but instead one that builds both quality academic and extra-curricular facilities."

The new theater will be a place for the entire community, school officials are saying. But it was built for the students.

"While we as a community will enjoy and appreciate this auditorium, the reason it was built is or the children of Bullard ISD that will become the Audry Owens of tomorrow," Bryant said.
