Sixth-ranked Buckeyes claim 90th career win for Coach Jeff Traylor

GILMER - The sixthranked, Gilmer Buckeyes made a statement in the district opener against Bullard, exploding for a 29-point second quarter, leading to the 48-12, win on Friday night at Buckeye Stadium.
The victory was the 90th career win for Gilmer head coach, Jeff Traylor, breaking a 73-year-old record held by the late Henry McClellan. Traylor is in his ninth-year at his alma mater.
The Panthers came out played tough with the Buckeyes through out the game and especially from the outset.
"The kid's really played hard and it was a very physical game," said Bullard head coach, Jim Taylor. "We came out and played well, but we made some mistakes that you can't make against a good team."
The Buckeyes scored 29- points, within a three-minute, 10-second span for a 41-6, Gilmer lead at the half.
Panther running back, Daniel Howard accounted for both of the Bullard touchdowns with runs of 70-, and 12-yards, and adding two interceptions for the Panthers defense. Howard finished the game with 95 yards on nine tries, and made six receptions for another 55 yards, and 150-yards total for the contest on offense. Howard also caused a fumble and made six tackles on the night.
Bullard quarterback, Charlie Moore rushed for 51 yards on 23 carries, and also threw for another 139- yards , going 15-of-29. Moore was intercepted once by Gilmer.
Buckeye, quarterback, Darian Godfrey completed 12-of-17 passes, for 248- yards, and two scores. The Panthers picked Godfrey off three times in the game.
Buckeye running back, Tristan Holt only carried the ball two times, but scored on both, scoring on an eightyard gallop to start the scoring with 8:24 left on the first quarter clock.
Bullard fans also got a big scare from Hunter Skelton, as the two-way stalwart, was injured and taken to the hospital. Skelton was treated and released later on Friday night.
The win was the 28th ina row for Gilmer (2-4; 1-0), at home and will play a big game on Friday as they travel to play at Chapel Hill, (5-0; 1-0). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Bullard will look for their first district win on Friday when they host Tatum, at Panther Stadium, for a 7:30 start.
