Lady Panther spikers with big game Friday

The Bullard Lady Panthers will celebrate 'Fan Appreciation Week' at this week's volleyball games, highlighted by a big matchup on Friday night with front-runner, Tatum, in District 17-3A play.

Gladewater and Gilmer, were the victims last week as the Lady Panthers improve their district record to 4-1, and 17-10 for the year.

All Bullard athletic enthusiasts are encouraged to come out early for the volleyball game on Friday and be a part 'Fan Appreciation Week'. Fans are asked top bring a can of food and help the Lady Panthers aid the East Texas Food Bank with a team contribution.

The varsity game will be moved up to 4:30 p.m. at the Bullard High School gymnasium, allowing plenty of time to make it over to the football game.

The Lady Panthers also entertained Chapel Hill on Tuesday, after the press deadline. For the game story see next week's edition of the Bullard Banner Sports.

Bullard 3, Gilmer 1

Down one game to Gilmer, the Lady Panthers capitalized on several unforced errors by Gilmer win the next three games, last Friday afternoon, at the Gilmer High School gymnasium.

Gilmer won the first game, 23-25 before Bullard turned things around, winning 25-20, 25- 11, and 25-13.

"We made a few too many mental mistakes in the first game," said Bullard head coach, Kala Laningham. "But the girl's played great and I was impressed with how quickly they turned the game around."

"Calli (Miller) showed great leadership with only one attacking error, and Valarie (Roberts) played amazing defense," Laningham added," but overall it was a total team effort."

Miller, finished up the game with 24 kills, 14 digs, and three service aces, and Roberts hustled for 17 digs and added seven kills. Camp set the pace for Bullard with 29 assists and nine digs. Elisia Coleman had 20 service points including three aces, and five kills.

Bullard 3, Gladewater 1

Gladewater is still looking for their first league win in district play as the Lady Panthers won a 3-1 matchup, last Tuesday night, at Panther gymnasium.

Bullard won 25-17, 27-25, 24-26, and 25-13 to improve to 16-10 on the year with the hard-earned win.

The Lady Bears gave Bullard tough matches in games two and three before Miller, Roberts and Coleman dominated the deciding fourth game for the win. Eight ties and four lead changes highlighted the game two Bullard win. Gladewater took the third game including eight ties and five lead changes.

Leading to the Bullard win Miller with 16 kills, 12 digs, one block and seven service aces.

Other Lady Panthers with big contributions were Elisia Coleman (nine kills, 16 digs, two aces), Valarie Roberts (nine kills, 20 digs), and setter Heather Camp set the floor with 30 assists and scrambled for 12 digs.

Bullard also swept the junior varsity games, 25-15, and 25-9.
