Guard rolls past Garland Christian

BULLARD - When you total out the game stats from the Brook Hill trouncing of Garland Christian, the Swordsmen two quarterbacks completed as many passes to The Guard as their own teammates.
The Brook Hill Guard busted out with 49, first quarter points and took advantage of seven interceptions in the game, en route to a 70-8, TAPPS, Division III, District 2 action on Friday night at Herrington Stadium, on the Brook Hill campus.
Brook Hill scored quickly and with ease for a 70-8, halftime lead, even with The Guard using the second team beginning the second quarter of play.
The Guard dominated play on both sides of the ball at the line with huge holes for the tandem of varied running back combinations in the game.
The 12-yard touchdown run by Garland Christian's. Ben Trotter was the longest run of the game allowed by the Brook Hill defense the entire night.
Brook Hill's, all-state running back, Julius Johnson touched the ball six times in the first quarter, scoring on runs of 17-, 18-, and 28-yards, for 87 yards in only one quarter of play.
Garland surrendered seven interceptions in the game, as two were turned in to points with scoring returns by Jeremey Chappelle, and Tyler Baker. Wes Wood led the defensive air thefts with three.
Baker added a pickoff as well, and returned it the distance for a 35-0 cushion with 3:20 remaining in the first quarter.
Holding down an incredible, 70-8 lead at intermission, the clock and The Guard remained running throughout the second half of play to end the one-sided affair. + Merc y an d grac e was shown best in the win by Brook Hill, as head coach, Jim Klaczak played everyone suited-up for The Guard. The game also marked the return of former Guard head coach, and now Garland Christian's head mentor, Paul Johnston.
Brook Hill improves to 4-1 on the year and 1-0 in district play. The Swordsmen fall to 1-5 for the season and 0-1 in league play.
The Guard will play at home again this week as they entertain All Saints in another district contest. The Trojans lost to Dallas Lutheran last week, 62-0 to fall to 0-1 in district play and 3-2, overall.
