Lady Panthers sweep Chapel Hill
CHAPEL HILL - The Bullard Lady Panthers were out to make a point in the 17-3A volleyball picture with a convincing three-game sweep over Chapel Hill on Tuesday night at the Bulldog gymnasium.
Bullard won 25-8, 25-11 and 25-10 to begin district play at 1-0, and 13-8 on the season.
"I was really glad to see the girl's come out and begin the match and finish the match with a lot of intensity," said Bullard head coach, Kala Laningham. "Chapel Hill is down a little this year, but getting Coach Godwin back, (from Pine Tree), I know they will be tough in the next few years.
"But our girl's were communicating, they were getting on the floor after balls, and they did some things that we have been working on in practice that was good to see in a game."
The frontline play of Calli Miller, Valarie Roberts, and Elicia Coleman was just too much for the Lady Bulldogs, while Heather Camp set the table for the offense and Ariel Hamby went off on a service showcase.
Leading the way for Bullard was senior outside hitter, Miller with 14 digs, 11 'Millkills' along with eight solo blocks.
That's 'Mill-kill' as in Miller blasting an unreturnable shot in a windmill-like fashion as all Lady Panther volleyball fans have become accustomed.
Lady Panther floor general, Heather Camp had 20 assists and 13 digs, while Ericia Coleman chipped in with 10 kills, and Valarie Roberts hustled for 13 digs and made six kills.
Ariel Hamby had a 10- point service run for Bullard to put away game two, including six of her eight aces in the match during the run.
Bullard swept the junior varsity match, 25-10, and 25-23. The Lady Panthers completed the shutout with wins of 25-13, and 25-17 to begin the series.
Bullard will take Friday off before traveling to Tatum next Tuesday in another District 17- 3A contest.
