Guard JV shines in win; middle school shootout ends with tie

BIG SANDY - The Brook Hill School eighth grade and junior varsity took to the road on Thursday night and played Big Sandy in two hard-fought games,

The eighth grade team fought to a 30-30 tie in the opening game of the afternoon on Thursday.

Later on the night, the junior varsity took a shutout, 19-0, win over the Wildcats for Brook Hill.

The next game for the Brook Hill eighth grade will be a re-match with Grace Community on Thursday, with the seventh grade game at 4:30 p.m. and the eighth grade set to kickoff at 6 p.m.

The Guard junior varsity will Dallas Home School at a site yet to be determined.

Eighth Grade Game

Brook Hill 30, Big Sandy 30

Brook Hill's, fullback, David Eichcelberger scored the first touchdown of the game, and ran for the extra point for an early lead for the Guard.

Brook Hill then added on to the count as quarterback, Quintin Pile threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Dan Mehling, after Dakota Aarant recovered a fumble for The Guard in the first period.

Guard, kick return specialist, Fred Ross broke loss and returned a kick-off, 80-yards for another Guard tally, and a 24-14, Brook Hill lead at the half. Ross had a long 80-yard kick return against Grace Community last week because of a penalty.

The Big Sandy defense stiffened in the last half of play allowing only one more touchdown from Eichelberger on a blast up the middle to close out the scoring in the tie for The Guard.

Junior Varsity

Brook Hill 19, Big Sandy 0 Brook Hill, wide receiver, Austin Langemeier was on the receiving end of a 25-yard scoring toss and the point-after kick was good for all the points the Brook Hill JV would need to take the win in the nightcap.

Jamel Bell added insurance with a three-yard scoring blast and a failed extra-point left the game with a Guard lead of 13- 0, at the half.

The Guard finished out the scoring in the fourth quarter on another scamper by Bell, this time from 17-yards out for the 19-0, final score.

Brook Hill coach, Vince Veazey cited the play of Matt Ruark with 10 tackles on defense, and Logan Kirkpatrick made a fumble recovery along with eight tackles in the game.
