Lady Guard sweeps district opener
The Brook Hill Lady Guard came up short in twoof three matches this past week, but won the one that mattered in a playoff scenario.
After opening the week of TAPPS competition with a loss to Class 5A, T.K. Gorman, and ending it with a setback at another 5A program, Grace Community, the Lady Guard hit the road and won their district opener over Lake hill.
The Lady Guard returns to play Canyon Creek on Tuesday in district play and entertains Garland Christian in another league match on Thursday.
Game times are 5 p.m. for the junior varsity and 6 p.m. for the varsity.
The Lady Guard will play a non-district affair in Frankston on Friday, beginning with the junior varsity at 4 p.m.
T.K. Gorman 3, Brook Hill
School 1
The Brook Hill Lady Guard played closer than a 3-1, win for T.K. Gorman looked on paper this last Tuesday night at the Ornellas Gymnasium on the Brook Hill School campus.
Gorman won the first two games, 25-21, and 25-23, before Brook Hill battled back for a 25-22 win.
The Lady Crusaders then put away game four with a late run, 25-21.
Brook Hill kept it close in the three losses, and picked up the third game win as Abby Clements banged out seven of her 13 kills on the night.
The Lady Guard got 35 assists from Erica Eden, along with 14 digs and four kills.
Clements had four blocks to go with her 13 kills, and Carly Hood chimed in with 18 digs, nine kills and two service aces.
Brook Hill 3, Lakehill 0
The Lady Guard made quick work of Lakehill with a three-game sweep in Dallas on Thursday, starting off district play undefeated with dominating scores of 25-8, 25-12, and 25-10.
Erica Eden once again set the pace for Brook Hill with 22 assists, six digs, and nine service points.
Teammates, Amy Jo Teague added three kills and eight service points, while Abby Clements hammered out seven kills.
Brook Hill's liebro, Kelsi Norton was key with 16 digs, and 18 service points.
Carly Hood had a good outing for the Lady Guard also with six digs, seven kills.
Katelyn Edenburg, and Mary Caroline Seldon chipped in with five and six kills respectively for the win, and Emily Cummings hustled for seven digs.
The junior varsity also swept their game in two matches, 25-23 and 25-20.
Grace 3, Brook Hill 1
The Lady Guard came out and took the first game, 25-22, and then lost the next three as Grace Community took the win last Friday. at the Grace Community gymnasium.
Brook Hill made the Lady Cougars earn the comeback as Grace put together three straight wins by scores of 28- 26, 25-19, and 25-23.
