Panthers take win with Moore points
The Bullard Panthers and Athens Hornets are fairly new to playing in a game of the undefeated as will be the caseon Friday night at Panther Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
Coming off a season opening win over Westwood, 38- 21,last Friday, Panthers head coach, Jim Taylor feels his squad will need to step up another notch against Athens.
"They have really been coming around as a program the past few years, and we can't let past records affect the way we approach this game," said Bullard head coach, Jim taylor. "THey are very talented, and COach Womack has eally done a great job of turning things around in Athens.
The Hornets made the playoffs last year for the first time in over a decade with a 5-6 record.
The previous playoff game for Athens dates back to 1996, after posting an 8-3 record.
The Hornets currently stand at 20 on the year after a 34-0 thrashing of Wills Point, and besting Mabank, 21-14, last Friday night.
Athens returns two offensive starters and seven on defense, of which he will be counting on for some doubleduty as well.
Defensively, teh Panthers will have to handle the job up front with five strong candidates for post-season accolades.
Linebackers, Anthony Crayton (5'10, 155, 107 tackles last year), and Steven Blankenship will be key for the Haornets. Defensive end, Phillip Griffin made 55 tackles last year, five for loses, and defensive backs, Tyler JAckson, and Deliance Moore each added 61 stops and made two interceptions apiece in 2007.
The Hornets will run the multiple-I formation, but will spread the ball around.
