Brook Hill spikers take 3-2 win over Grace Community
BULLARD -For a season opener, first year head coach, Victoria Spencer found out a lot about her squad as it took the full five-games to decide the winner between Brook Hill and Grace Community at Herrington Gymnasium on Thursday night.
After all was said and done, Brook Hill won game five, 15- 13, over Grace Community to open the season at 1-0.
Grace won game one 25-17, and the Lady Guard answered with a hard-fought 29-27,win to even the match at one win each.
Grace came back and took a 25-17 win in game three only to have the Lady Guard again counter with a 25-22, win to force the final game.
Game five was just as exciting as the entire game, highlighted with six ties and four lead changes before Carly Hood sealed the win with the final kill of the game and the 15- 13,decider.
Leading the way for Brook Hill (1-0), was the setter Erica Eden with 28 assists, while teammates Kelsi Norton chipped in with 20 digs.
Amy Jo Teague, Abby Clements, and Hood aided the Lady Guard with six kills apiece in the win. Kaitlyn Adenberg was also stellar with six blocks and four kills.
The Lady Cougars (1-1), got five kills and four blocks from Maggi Jones, Kayla Konon added eight assists, while Katie Gusa chimed in with four blocks.
The Lady Guard will be playing on the road in the Eustace tournament this weekend.
Grace Community will trek back to Bullard next Tuesday night as they play Bullard High School with the junior varsity set to start 4 p.m. and the varsity set to follow.
