Brook Hill dominates Mustangs in scrimmage
Coutesy photo Guard celebrates scrimmage win over-ton. OVERTON - After the Overton Mustangs started the scrimmage with an attempt at intimidation with consecutive unsportsmanlike penalties, the Brook Hill Guard turned the table and took it to the Mustangs winning by a scrimmage score of 5-1.
That means five TD's for The Guard and one for Overton.
"Our defensive unit just played outstanding,' said Guard head coach Jim Klaczak on Monday after reviewing film from Saturday's matchup. "I think we only gave up one first down and that was on their long touchdown, and we only had to restart drives only once the entire day."
Cited for outstanding play on defense were linebacker Ross Nichols and defensive end, Austin Pyle.
The defensive would have accounted for another score but an interception by J.B. Moss was whistled dead before they let him enjoy crossing the goalline.
Paying without all-state sophomore running back, Julius Johnson, the Guard had things well in-hand behind the offensive juice of Tyler Baker, Luke Moidor, and Jeremee Chappelle.
Molidor, ran for touchdowns of two-yards and 45- yards and amassed 160-yards on the day toting the pigskin.
Chappelle made one 70- yard touchdown catch from Tyler Baker for one score, and the Jacksonville transfer added another score returning a fumble recovery to paydirt.
Quarterback, Baker capped off the scoring for Brook Hill with a run from seven-yards out on a quarterback option play.
"Our offensive line did a good job of controlling the game up front, we just need to get the timing down in the backfield better than what we did against Overton, but hopefully that will just come with time,' added Klaczak.
"This year has been so different after having to teach the basics last season
and we had to keep things simple," said the coach with state championships in Hawaii. "But you can tell the kid's have worked hard in the summer and in off-season which allows us more time to work on the same itself and not worry as much about conditioning.
"We have more tools to work with this year and out personnel has allowed us to change our defense to fit the people we have which is another nice addition for us.
The Guard will scrimmage Cayuga on Thursday at 6 p.m. and open the season against San Augustine on Friday, Sept. 12.
