The first intra-squad scrimmage of the season unveiled the 2008 Panthers this past Saturday morning with some big hits, and bigger offensive highlights.

The fired-up Panthers hit the field running, catching and throwing as a pleased coaching staff spurred on their

respective players and overall accomplished the goals set out in the intra-squad feud.

"We just liked the idea of the kid's coming out and going up against each other at full speed, and putting some kids in key spots and see how they respond," said second year head coach, Jim Taylor.

"Last year, everybody was picking up the new system, adjusting to new coaches and it just takes a little time for transition," Taylor continued.

"This year, they are used to the system and we just chose to get some things on film, not get too banged up like we might in a two or three-way scrimmage, and we had some good things happen, but we have some things we have got to work on as well."

The Panthers in a controlled scrimmage format rolled up 279 yards in 22 plays, and scored four touchdowns.

Rushing the ball, the team rushed for 197 yards on 10 carries, and two resulting in touchdowns. Passing, Charlie Moore was nine-of-12 for 82 yards, two touchdowns and one misfire.

David Howard ended the first series of plays busting in from 30-yards out. Howard totaled out with 85-yards in four carries.

After the Howard score, it was time for Charlie Moore to show some more.

The fleet-footed signalcaller optioned right, cut back up the middle and raced down the left sideline for a 65 yard touchdown jaunt.

Moore then later connected with Howard on a 12-yard scoring strike as the first team offense rolled up the yardage.

Howard also led all receivers in the scrimmage with three catches, good for 32- yards.

Another Panther score came as Dakota Robinson plunged in from one-yard out and finished the outing with three carries and 18 yards with his score..

After the first series the first team defense took the field ad it took three plays before Lance Anding made an interception and took it home for six more points.

The final score of the day came as Brandon Beavers made a circus catch for a 14-yard tally to end the day on a bright note. Beavers added another nice grab earlier to set up a Panther score with a seven-yard, onehanded grab in traffic.

"White Oak next Thursday will be another step for us to evaluate where we are at, an after looking at the film from the scrimmage, we see several things that we need to address this week," Taylor said in conclusion. "All we want and can ask from these kids is to come out and play as hard as they can and have fun doing it, while still focusing on the main goal which is winning games."
