East Texas Genealogical sets annual holiday party

East Texas Genealogical Society will hold its annual Christmas party luncheon and officer installation at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Tyler Public Library in the Taylor Auditorium.

Luncheon will be potluck brought by society members.

Officers installed will be: President Sam Kidd, First Vice President June Everheart, Second Vice President Pat Reece Galloway, Recording Secretary Sherry Kidd, Corresponding Secretary Dixie Flick, Treasurer Caryn Giesler, editor of "The Bulletin" Janice Cox Brown, editor of "East Texas Family Records" Scott Fitzgerald, Director of Computer Interest Group Frances Bishop Grochowski, Director of Marketing and Sales Mary Beth Rammage, and 2010 Directors, Janet Cottle and Sue Green.

ETGS recently hosted the Texas State Genealogical Society's annual conference and writing awards at the Holiday Inn Select.

ETGS won a third place award for its newsletter "The Bulletin" which was edited by Janice Cox Brown.

ETGS won a third place award for its quarterly "East Texas Family Records" which was edited by Scott Fitzgerald.

ETGS also won a second place award for the society's website.

It is maintained by webmaster, Lawrence E. Oliver.

ETGS also received two grants from TSGS. The first grant is for assistance in preserving the society's publications.

ETGS will have the full run of "The Tracings" scanned and made fully searchable by the University of North Texas through its Portal To Texas. "The Tracings" was originally published by the now defunct Anderson County Genealogical Society.

ETGS will also have the first 20 volumes of the "East Texas Family Records" scanned and made searchable by UNT.

All issues will be made available at the Portal To Texas Web site.

The second grant is to assist ETGS in publishing a new book by John R. Dulin entitled "Rusk County, Texas Death Ledger 1903- 1917."

It should be available for sale early 2008.

TSGS President Scott Fitzgerald also presented his President's Award to Sam Kidd, Sherry Kidd and June Everheart.

He said that their assistance in the preparation for the TSGS conference was a vital part of the success of the conference.

Everyone is invited to join the end of year party. ETGS meeting are free and open to the public.
