EXTREME MAKEOVER
About 25 scouts, troop leaders and parents turned out to help Kevin by providing muscles and wielding paint brushes, shovels, and trowels in a strong community show of support for the library. McCugh, 16, approached the library several months ago with his plans, complete with a set of drawings. After approval of his plans by the Library Board, Kevin began the execution of his four-part plan. He arranged for the printing (at cost) of a durable new sign to replace the original one and secured a third-party supporter to donate the cost. The hanging of a new sign represented a historically significant event for the McCugh family. Kevin is the son of Becky McCugh and the grandson of Ray and Valerie McCugh. Valerie McCugh was one of the first members of the Bullard Community Library Board and witnessed the building of the present library from groundbreaking
She and husband Ray, former mayor of Bullard, were present for the hanging of the new sign, prepared by Craig Gardner of Sign Country. Also present was Dr. Marjorie Roper Studdard, longtime supporter of the library. McCugh's work crew also completed landscaping tasks. The parking barriers are now a bright reflective silver, the existing flower beds are rejuvenated with new droughttolerant plantings, mulch and brick borders. The crew also enlarged and improved the rear entrance to the library. "I wanted to focus on tasks that would improve the overall appearance of the current building while the community continues to raise funds for a new library," McCugh said.
"The sign was designed so it could be transported to the new site, as could other materials used in the project."
