Noonday native signs books

Joe Garner Turman was born and raised in Noonday. Now living in Guntersville, Ala., Turman is going to end up in Noonday via Interstate 20 and signing in cities beside the interstate - starting in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

From Tuscaloosa, he will do signings in Jackson, Miss.; Shreveport, La.; and end up in Tyler - eight miles from Noonday.

"My book was just released in June, but the response to it has been terrific," Turman said of his book, "Sling Creek." "It is a book for all age groups and is a great family book."

Turman said it's struck a responsive chord in the heart of mainstream America.

"Most people who read it say that they can't put it down until they finish," he said.

The story tells of a summer in the life of two brothers who grow up in a small community in the rural south.

"'Sling Creek' says to its readers that they should stand for what is right and speak up against what is wrong and not be intimidated by bullies," Turrman said. "It communicates a clear-cut Christian message."

Ending his tour in Tyler, Turman will sign books from 2-4 p.m. Nov. 17 at The Scroll Christian Book Store, located at the corner of Loop 323 and East 5th Street. Later the same day, he will sign books from 6 to 9 p.m. at Barnes & Noble, located at 4976 S. Broadway Ave.
