'Genealogy Guys' scheduled to speak at annual conference The Texas State Genealogical Society will hold its 47th Annual Conference on Nov. 9-10 at the Holiday Inn Select, 5701 South Broadway Ave., Tyler. The featured speakers are George G. Morgan and Drew Smith who are also known as "The Genealogy Guys." They produce an hour-long podcast on genealogy subjects each week that can be downloaded and listened to on your computer or MP3 player.http://www.tylerlibrary.c om The East Texas Genealogical Society is the local host for this conference. George G. Morgan is an avid genealogist whose interest began at age 10. He is the author of several books and articles and writes an award winning weekly online genealogy column called "Along Those Lines ...." that now appears at his web site - http://ahaseminars.livejournal.c om. Morgan is a member of Association of Professional Genealogists, National Genealogical Society, Society of Genealogists (U.K.) and more than 20 other societies across the U.S. and U.K. His latest book is "The Official Guide to Ancestry.com." Morgan will present four topics at the conference: Bits About Obits: Reading Between the Lines; Planning a Very Successful Genealogical Research Trip; Bring 'Em Back to Life: Developing an Ancestor Profile; and Ancestry.com: Tips and Tricks. Drew Smith is the Information Literacy Librarian for the University of South Florida Tampa Library. He is the "Cybrarian" columnist for the Digital Genealogist magazine and the "Technology" columnist for the NGS NewsMagazine. Smith has lectured numerous times at both national conferences and at meeting and conferences of many state and local societies. Smith is a director for the Federation of Genealogical Societies and the president of the Florida Genealogical Society (Tampa). He is a member of the National Genealogical Society, Society of Genealogists (U.K.), Genealogical Speakers Guild, International Society of Family History Writers and Editors and the Association of Professional Genealogists. Smith will present three lectures at the conference: Dear Genealogy Diary: Today I Made a Great Discovery!; Putting Search Engines to Work; and What's My Next Step? The Organized Genealogist. Morgan and Smith will do a live recording for their "Genealogy Guys" podcasts. Attendees will be invited to submit their genealogy problems or brickwalls, and if chosen, to record their question and Drew & George's answer for broadcast on future podcasts. The Lone Star Chapter of the Association of Professionals Genealogists will offer free 15 minutes consultations for attendees on their genealogy related problems.
