Bullard chamber looking for parade, pageant entries

The Bullard Area Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to participate in the Red, White and Blue Festival 2007.

The festival will be held in downtown Bullard Saturday, Nov. 10 in conjunction with Veterans Day.

It is held to recognize and honor members of the US military.

A parade will kick off the events Saturday at 10 a.m.

Entries will line up beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the Bullard Middle School parking lot.

There will be trophies for first, second and third place parade entries.

At noon all past and present members of the military who are present will be individually recognized with a token of appreciation from the chamber and a salute from a member of the armed forces.

There will be vendors, food, drinks, a dog show and many other events.

A carnival will run through Sunday.

Parade entries will be charged a $10 fee.

Entries are invited to find a sponsor to cover that fee, but if anyone needs a sponsor the chamber will try to provide it.

Entries and their sponsors will be announced during the parade.

Entries are welcome to display sponsor signs during the parade.

Applications are also being accepted for the Bullard Area Chamber of Commerce 2007 Miss Red, White and Blue Scholarship program.

Miss Red, White and Blue will earn a $500 scholarship.

Two runners up will each receive $250 scholarships.

The Miss Red, White and Blue Scholarship competition is open to all high school senior girls who are enrolled in Bullard High School or The Brook Hill School or who attend an accredited home school program or private school and live in the Bullard school district.

The purpose of the Miss Red, White and Blue Scholarship program is to recognize the commitment of the men and women of the nation's armed forces by awarding a scholarship in their name.

Entrants must write an essay of no more than 150 words that explains their views on setting aside a day to recognize and thank the nation's military people.

Applications are available at the chamber of commerce office at 114 N. Houston Suite 1, Bullard, TX 75757.

Completed applications must be delivered to the chamber of commerce office by Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 4 p.m.
