CAMPAIGN COMES TO CLOSE
Campaign culminates with picnic in park Oct. 20

At last year's annual Picnic at the Park, children got the opportunity to play together while adults contributed to the ongoing fund-raising efforts for the Bullard Community Library. This year's picnic is set for Oct. 20.
The Bullard Community Library's children's capital campaign to raise $1,600 is nearing completion.

Many Bullard merchants gave space on their counters for the change jars.

Some had their jars emptied more than once, including Subway and Brookshire's.

Brookshire's even asked for a larger jar, organizers said.

The campaign will culminate on Oct. 20 at the Picnic in the Park. Children who have participated in the campaign will be recognized.

Picnic in the Park is a family affair with free food for everyone, crafts and pumpkin painting for the kids.

It will be held from 4 - 6 p.m. at the O. L. Ferrell Park on Rather Street.

"Last year we had lots of fun, and we expect a big crowd this year," said coordinator Martha Dinwiddie.

The money collected to this point from merchants and other donations totals $260

"Some of the kids had fun using a calendar in September to remind them to put change in their banks every day," said Tabitha Hippler, committee member for Change for a Change.

"Kids, if your bank is getting full, count the money you've saved so far and bring it into the library.

"Then continue to save until Oct. 20 and bring it with you to Picnic in the Park."

The proposed new Bullard Community Library will be located on land donated by the city at the corner of Rather and Sawyer Streets.

The 10,000 square-foot building will have ample space for books and reading, community meetings, and Meals-on- Wheels.

The capital campaign committee is moving into high gear and report that the topographical survey and soil samples are being done.

The campaign total now stands at $337,000.
