Bullard JV takes win over Devils

The junior varsity Panthers defeated the Huntington Devils Thursday night 18-6.

The game was tied 6-6 at halftime, but Bullard turned it up in the second half to get the victory.

Offensively, Bullard was led by Sydney Lawson who scored on runs of 3, 8 and 68 yards.

Standout players offensively were Hunter Skelton, Dalton Simonek, R.J. Horton, David Diduch, Jeremy Welmaker and Vinny Cottingham.

The defense played an outstanding second half and shut down the Devils.

Leading the way with two interceptions was Phillip Rieger, Dalton Simonek with one interception and DeJuan Shelton with one interception.

Defensive standouts were Shaquille Marable, Sean Tadlock, Stacy Phillips and Preston Seaton-Knox.

The varsity Panthers traveled to Huntington Friday evening where they were they also defeated the Devils, 34-7.

Leading rushers for the Panthers were Geoff Dick with 21 carries for 153 yards and two touchdowns and Charlie Moore with 11 carries for 69 yards and one touchdown.

Marquez Franklin added the Panthers remaining offensive touchdown.

Charlie Moore led passing by completing four of 10 passes for 30 yards.

Leading receiver for the night was Chad Hollie with three catches for 37 yards.

Lance Anding score the Panthers final touchdown as he returned a punt for 83 yards.

Bullard's defense, Lance Anding and Brandon Noble each made an interception.

Collin Shivers led tackles with 10, Charlie Moore; 7 and Shawn Stephens also made 7.

"Our kids played hard, our defense played well the entire game and our offense did what they needed to do to get the ball into the end-zone," Taylor said. "We also made some improvements in our special teams, which is encouraging. We are continuing to improve and we need to continue with our improvement each week - if we do this, we will have an opportunity to develop into a fine football team."

The junior varsity will travel to Sabine Sept. 13 to face of with the Cardinals at 6:30 p.m.

The varsity team will play Sabine Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. for the school homecoming game.

Homecoming events will begin Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 5:15 p.m. with a parade from the high school to the gazebo in the square. Following the parade a pep rally will be held at the gazebo.

Friday, a pep rally at the high school will begin at 2:40 p.m.

Homecoming coronation and a pre-game show will begin at 7 p.m. in Panther stadium.
